The Range

A shooting environment
unlike any other.

Phoenix Rifle Club operates inside a 200-metre former railway tunnel on Barry Island — one of the UK's most unusual indoor shooting environments. The Tunnel provides year-round, fully weather-independent shooting conditions that support everything from beginner .22LR sessions to serious full-bore benchrest competition.

The range holds formal certification, Home Office approval, and full Club insurance. Every session is supervised by NRA-qualified Range Officers with direct, hands-on experience across full-bore rifle, benchrest, Mini Rifle, and long-range marksmanship.

What We Shoot

Disciplines & Activities

01

Full-Bore Rifle

Competitive full-bore target shooting in a certified, Home Office-approved indoor environment. Suitable for FAC licence holders and competitive shooters seeking serious, structured range time regardless of weather.

02

Precision Benchrest

The Club’s highest-precision discipline — accuracy-focused seated shooting where equipment consistency, ammunition quality, and technical refinement converge. Members compete in benchrest events throughout South Wales.

03

Mini Rifle & .22LR

Regular .22LR Mini Rifle and Air Rifle sessions accessible to newer members and families. A structured, lower-barrier entry point into competitive shooting with the same standard of safety supervision.

04

Beginner Introduction

No prior shooting experience required. Phoenix Rifle Club welcomes complete beginners into a safety-first environment with step-by-step guidance and mentorship from experienced Range Officers from the very first session.

05

Load Development & Testing

Dedicated Chronograph booking and tunnel access for precision reloaders. Test ammunition consistency, measure muzzle velocities, and refine load data in a weather-independent, fully certified environment.

Safety & Supervision

Run by active shooters.
Supervised by qualified officers.

Phoenix Rifle Club is operated by active shooters, experienced competitors, and NRA-qualified Range Officers — people with practical, first-hand involvement across full-bore rifle, benchrest disciplines, Mini Rifle, and long-range marksmanship.

Every session combines structured safety supervision with the kind of technical support that only comes from years of competition, rifle setup, ammunition testing, and precision marksmanship training. Whether it is your first time or your thousandth, the standard of supervision never changes.

NRA-Qualified Range Officers

All sessions are supervised by Range Officers holding current NRA qualification — not just club volunteers.

Home Office Approved

The Club holds formal Home Office approval with a documented shooting record, certified for full-bore and miniature rifle disciplines.

Certified Range Documentation

Full range certification, liability insurance, constitution, byelaws, and safeguarding policy are maintained and available to members.

Beginner-Friendly Induction

You do not need prior experience to begin. Every new member receives a structured safety induction before their first shot.
